Do Epoxy Floor Coatings Need Maintenance?
If you are considering an epoxy coating on your floors or you already have an epoxy coating, you may be wondering what kind of maintenance is necessary for epoxy flooring.
Epoxy floors, and other types of resinous floor coating like polyurea, polyurethane, and polyaspartic flooring are impermeable surfaces that will not stain under normal usage.
Floor Coating Maintenance
There are a few things you can do to keep your floors in great condition but overall epoxy floors do not need a whole lot of work to keep them looking good.
- Minor Spills – If you have epoxy flooring and you have minor spills or drippings from your vehicle, grab a soft cloth or paper towel and wipe up the spills.
- Maintenance Cleaning – Once a year you should consider a maintenance cleaning, you can do this with a soft bristled broom or a commercial dust mop. Ask your local expert what type of cleaning products you should use on your epoxy floors for yearly cleaning.
- Heavy Cleaning – If you have soiled epoxy floors or floors that are in need of a heavy cleaning you can do this using clear ammonia, hot water, and a foam mop. Sweep any debris or dirt away first, then use a gallon of water mixed with four ounces of ammonia.
Please note it is important not to use abrasive cleaning products or highly acidic cleaning agents on your floor coatings.
As you can see, caring for your epoxy floors does not have to be time-consuming. By wiping up spills and drips as you catch them, you can keep your epoxy flooring clean, shiny, and line new. In fact, we have had our floor coatings tested up to the equivalent of up to 125 years of normal use and the floors still remained intact without flaking or peeling!
